Last Friday, our friend Big Russ took myself and 3 other awesome ladies out to see Pat Green at the Buckhead Theater. It was an amazing show full of Southern Pride.
The opener was not too shabby either (see Tyler Reeve). Although there was a good chance that his mother was the lady singing along in the front row, as she knew every word to every song and looked very similar to him. She was pleasant and so excited for him, you could see the pride beaming out of her face and Bud Light, which is really only appropriate for a country show...which could be a reason they are typically the most fun shows to attend. It's like people don't care about being pretentious to fit a stereotype to the music, you get a little buzzed, sing a long if you know the words, and do a little awkward white person jig with a big smile on your face if you don't. People may judge and disagree, but what is not fun about a country concert?! Anyway, Tyler had a a good raspy, deep voice perfectly suited for country music, as well as plenty of songs about drinking, staying out late, and annoying your girlfriend, also perfectly suited for country music. All in all, put on a good show.
The next on the stage was Pat Green. If you are not familiar with the one of 20 (possibly) CDs that Pat Green has released, you may have been hiding under a rock, or just hate country music. If it is just the former and not the latter, I suggest you check him out. With songs like Everclear and Dixie Lullaby, he is the perfect mix for good classic country music, a little bit drunk, and a little bit sweet. We did our awkward jigs in the little space to move, front and center mind you (which could have irritated the girls behind us since Russ is "6'7"), almost started a couple drunken brawls with the douchey guys in front of us (I understand that you are protecting your underage girlfriend, but no need to be an ass about it, we are all here for a good time). Also, I am pretty sure Pat Green himself had been tipping into a little bit of the Everclear himself. CLASSIC! The show was a lot of fun, everything you would expect for a legendary night full of loud country music, drunken debauchery, and white people attempting to "Dougie" (ps- that was me, it was a shit show). The other stories are unfortunately a little too inappropriate to blast out to the world wide web...you know who you are....
